People’s Day’ in San Fernando City anew

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, May 31 (PIA) — The City Government of San Fernando has conducted another ‘People’s Day’ activity on May 23 in six barangays of District XII. The activity involved provision of services such as free circumcision, dental check-up, urinary tests and distribution of basic medicines such as antibiotics and vitamins.

This was the third time that such an event was held since it was launched last April.

The said activity was held in barangays Apaleng, Bangbangolan, Bacsil, Baraoas, Calabuyao and Puspos.

Plastic and glassware bottle were also collected as part of “Palit Basura sa Store ni Pablo” or the “Basura Exchange Center,” a program initiated by the city government. This is aimed at encourage the practice of proper waste segregation in exchange for grocery items such as noodles, soap, canned goods and others.

City government employees conducted information campaign on agriculture, health, environment, real property and even ordinances pertaining to business and individual permits, sanitary permit, fire clearance and others.

“Maragsakan kami la unay ta makaited daytoy a serbisyo ti tulong kadakami nangnangruna iti naduma-duma nga ag-agas a maipaay para dagiti masaksakit ditoy ayan mi” (We are really happy because this program provides services that help us especially with the various medicine brought for the sick people here),” said Marites Casugay, a housewife and resident of barangay Bangbangolan.

Officials of the city government also provided computers, educational materials, citizen’s charter and most especially P 100,000 to each barangay to be used in building and improving their stage.

From the Talakayan program undertaken here by the Philippine Information Agency and radio station DZNL, concerns of some barangays were discussed.

The problems brought out by barangay Baraoas and Calabugao were about securing and acquiring scholarship program for the indigenous people in their areas, farm to market road, footbridge and cover of their open court court.

City Mayor Pablo C. Ortega also expressed his gratitude to all participants because of their support on People’s Day and announced the next People’s Day will be held in District VIII on June 22. (ANL/MHH-PIA 1 La Union)
