BY April M. Montes
DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Regional Office I lauded Laoac town for its social services rendered to improve the lives of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.
Iryn Cubangbang, information officer of DSWD in the Ilocos, said the town has helped the agency for the effective implementation of the government’s poverty reduction effort to bring beneficiaries into self-reliance even after the program.
“With their battle cry ‘Itag-ay Daguiti Nakurapay’ (uplift the poor), this small town provided potable water supply, sanitary toilets, and livelihood projects; and constructed farm to market roads to help poor families in their area,” she said.
Other local government units (LGUs) in Region I hailed as DSWD’s convergence champions are Laoag City in Ilocos Norte; Vigan City in Ilocos Sur; and Rosario in La Union.
“These LGUs displayed exemplary performance on transition plan implementation; policy formulation prioritizing Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries; full convergence with DSWD and partner agencies; and documented good practice on convergence and family/community showcasing convergence strategy,” said Cubangbang.
These finalists will be awarded during the DSWD’s 64th Anniversary celebration in February 2015. (MCA/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
