Ilocos Norte starts wellness campaign to reduce stress, depression

LAOAG CITY – Amidst the daily stress in the workplace and everyday living, the Ilocos Norte provincial government has started a wellness program that promotes physical, mental and psychological fitness for residents here.

Nicole Rudio, the Public Employment Service Officer (PESO) of Ilocos Norte, said program was launched on Saturday with a multi-sectoral group in attendance.

“The forum was attended by social welfare officers , representatives from security, safety and health sectors, spiritual advisers, guidance counselors, class advisers and Parent Teacher Association officers of different schools,” she said.

The campaign was jointly organized by the education department and Sirib Youth Office in partnership with Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) and De La Salle University (DLSU) Counseling and Educational Psychology Department.

Rudio said the program includes ways to promote and establish a community with active and healthy lifestyle to enhance quality of life.

“We want a holistic approach towards wellness—physically, emotionally and psychologically. The workshops will deal with how we can help each other create a better environment for wellness exercising, meditation and community outreach,” she said.

With the rising cases of depression all over the world, Rudio said the program hopes to create a support group for the entire community in order to ensure promotion of wellness in all aspects of life. (MCA/FGL PIA- 1 Ilocos Norte)
