LAOAG CITY – Beneficiaries of the “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) are hopeful of additional benefits following the expansion of education cash grants for school children.
Social Welfare Officer Ronald Punio, provincial link of the patawid pamilya program in Ilocos Norte, said the Department of Social Welfare and Development adopted a resolution that expanded the age of school children–recipients of cash grants from 0-14 years old to 18 years old.
The resolution was approve d on July 10 last year through the recommendation of members of the National Advisory Council (NAC) to the government’s cash grant program.
Punio said beneficiaries under the expanded program may swell noting that at least 18,705 household-recipients of the pantawid program have been identified this year.
“The new list was based on the Listahan, Talaan ng Pamilyang Nangangailangan,” he said during the weekly’s PIA radio program: Pannaki-uman, Isyu ken Aksyon.
For her part, Leilanie Manarpaac, a pantawid pamilya beneficiary from Barangay Baligat, Batac City, said the expansion will go a long way in completing her children’s high school education.
She said the pantawid expansion program will also increase their children’s employability.
Punio also announced that 85 scholars will be awarded the Students Grant–in- Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (SGPPA) for 2014.
He said the SGPPA is a partnership program between the DSWD and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to help all qualified beneficiaries of pantawid pamilya to finish college course from government’s state colleges and universities. (MCA/FGL PIA – 1 Ilocos Norte)
