LAOAG CITY, May 6 (PIA) — At least seven couples are aspiring to extend their conjugal partnerships in their respective town and city halls on May 13.
Of these, five wives are running for the mayoral post, which their running mate-husbands formerly held.
They are Chevylle Fariñas (Laoag) whose husband Michael was formerly mayor from 2004-2013; Arlene Torralba (Badoc) whose husband Thomas served for nine years as mayor; Lairvee Espiritu (Dumalneg) whose husband Francisco served as mayor for nine years; Matilde Sales (Pagudpud) whose husband Reynolan was also a three-time mayor and in San Nicolas, Melanie Valdez whose husband Alfredo Jr. also sat for nine years.
The other couple-tandems are Salvacion Cimatu,(Bangui) whose husband Fidel, Jr. was a former provincial board member and Aldrin Garvida (Nueva Era) whose wife Caroline was former mayor for nine years.
Couples Torralba of Badoc and Espiritu of Dumalneg are running unopposed.
Other interesting tandems are the father and son teams in Solsona and Banna towns.
Jonathan and his father Joseph de Lara are both running unopposed in Solsona while Carlito Abadilla is running for mayor with his son Carlito II as vice mayor.
And then there’s the daughter-mother team in Currimao and Dingras.
Reelectionist Gladys Cue is running as mayor with her unopposed mother Rosario Go as her running mate for the vice mayoral seat.
Former Dingras Mayor Marynette Gamboa, who won for reelection in the 2010 elections but was later disqualified because of a criminal case in the United States, is again running for mayor. The Commission on Elections again excluded her candidacy because of the same case. Her daughter Tiffany is running for the vice mayoral post.
In Batac City, Jeffrey Nalupta, is running on his third term with his cousin Ronald Allan as his running mate. Both are unopposed. (MCA/ PIA 1-Ilocos Norte)
