SAN FERNANDO CITY, May 2 (PIA) – At least two associations for the self-employed will receive capital assistance to buy seeds for for the government’s environmental preservation program.
Allan Lulu, DSWD information officer, said the agreement covers the provision of P350,000 in capital assistance to the Villacorta Green Thumb and the Mapita Seedlings Planters in Pangasinan province. The associations are recipients of the DSWD’s self-employment assistance kaunlaran (Sea-K) program.
The financial assistance will be used to buy seedlings that will be planted in various areas to be identified and provided by the DENR.
Lulu said the plants grown by the groups will be purchased by DENR after three months.
The assistance was part of an agreement that the Departments of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) signed to implement the “Sustainable Livelihood and Environment for DSWD Disadvantaged Clients” in the Ilocos region.
The program intends to implement an area-based approach in preserving the environment and provide livelihood for the poor under the convergence strategy of the national government.
DSWD Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes urged the beneficiaries to do their share for the program’s success by striving to improve their economic status and contribute to national development. (MCA/MHH PIA1 La Union with reports from DSWD1)
