LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, May 2 (PIA) — The provincial government wants to involve the youth in promoting environmental protection by conducting a poster-making contest focused on the environment.
Rowena Dela Cruz, administrative assistant of the Solid Waste Management Office, said the contest held last week was one of the highlights in this year’s Pistay Dayat (Sea Festival) celebration.
“It is a form of information, education campaign to heighten peoples’ awareness especially the youth on the importance of the environment,” Dela Cruz said.
Participants, who were assisted by their coaches, belong to grade school and high school from public and private schools.
Students will create posters depicting the theme “Seven Principles of Environmental Education.”
The seven principles include: (1) Nature Knows Best, (2) All Forms of Life are Important, (3) Everything is Connected to Everything Else, (4) Everything Changes, Everything Must Go Somewhere , (5) Ours is a Finite Earth, (6) Nature is Beautiful, and (7) We are Stewards of God’s Creation, she added.
Criteria for judging are creativity and presentation, originality, relevance to the theme and over-all impact.
Winners in the high school category will receive a cash prize of P5, 000 for the top prize while the second and third prize winners will take home P3, 000 and P2, 000 respectively.
For the elementary category, the first prize winner will receive P3, 000 cash while the second and third prize winners will receive P2, 000 and P1, 000 each.
The Provincial Information Office said the project will become a regular fixture in the festival celebration in partnership with schools. (MCA/AMM-PIA1, Pangasinan)
