SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Apr 24 (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Ilocos has completed building a warehouse in Urayong village in Bauang town to store relief goods during calamity season.
Allan O. Lulu, DSWD information officer, said the structure, costing P2.58 million, was designed primarily to store large stockpile of food and non-food items prepositioned for disaster operations.
The DSWD also assigned workers who will manage the warehouse pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 25 or the Organization of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Operations Office.
Lulu said the personnel are tasked to inspect goods regularly from unpacking to unpacking of food packs including keeping them safe from pests.
Warehouse personnel will also assist in releasing goods to local government units, national government organizations and legislative staff.
The workers will also take care of hauling newly purchased and donated goods including encoding and recording of receipts and issuance of commodities, Lulu said.
Present during the blessing and inauguration were DSWD Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo, Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Melchito Castro, also the chairperson of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, Rev. Ryan Abellera, DSWD officials and staff.
