SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, April 23 (PIA) — Another summer festival hopes to draw tourists to the scenic town of Bauang from April 20-27.
The Baggak festival is a week-long parade of culture and arts including gastronomic events.
‘Baggak’ is an Ilocano term for morning star. Festival organizers hope to catch the first light of a new day and convert it to progress for Bauang town.
Joan P. Diaz, Bauang information and tourism staff, said the summer festival started in 2000 and had since become an annual event that displays the town’s achievements and marks peoples’ creativity.
The festival kicked off with a family fun run and alumni homecoming last April 20.
The week-long festival will also feature a gastronomic event with the holding of a food festival of 10 specialty dishes courtesy of the Bauang Tourism Council (BTC).
Cristy Besanko, of the Bali Hai Beach Resort and food fest committee chair, said 10 member-establishments of the BTC will showcase their food specialties.
“Bauang is not only a summer destination because of its beach activities. It is also home to gastronomic delights and great entertainment,” she added.
Other activities lined up include San Miguel Beer night and a children’s fun show where balloons and face painting will be offered.
A cultural presentation by various elementary schools will entertain the community on April 27 followed by a search for the Miss Campus Teen Queen, which will cap the week-long celebration.(MCA/MHH PIA1 La Union with reports from Joan P. Diaz/LGU-Bauang)
