DAGUPAN CITY, April 10 (PIA) — Residents will start grilling on April 22 to mark the world-famous Bangus Festival in this city.
Councilor Alvin Coquia, this year’s festival Hermano Mayor, said that screening for participants for Little Miss Dagupan, Festival King and Queen and Ms. Gay Dayat started last month.
Mayor Benjie Lim designated Coquia to be the festival’s Hermano Mayor.
A press statement from the City Information Office stated that residents will be treated to a colorful Bangus Ed Carosa (Bangus Float) parade to kick off the two-week long festivities.
The next day, simultaneous Bangus activities will take place with the 101 Ways to Cook Seafood at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome on April 23 back to back with the Bangus Rodeo at the Malimgas Market featuring the city’s most beautiful bangus as well as the people behind the bangus sorting and bangus deboning.
The “D’ BSL Lechon Festival” on April 25 will start at 8 a.m. at the city plaza to provide an alternative income for the Dagupeños by growing organic pigs that could compete in quality with the regularly-grown pigs.
A thanksgiving mass is scheduled on April 27 at 7 a.m. at the Pantal River. The annual Gilon Gilon Ed Dalan (Street Dancing) will hit the streets on April 29 at 3 p.m. The Kalutan Ed Dalan (Street Grilling party) on April 30 will start at 3 p.m. along A.B. Fernandez Avenue. It will once again showcase the camaraderie of the whole city with residents and domestic and foreign tourists enjoying hours of fun and partaking of the grilled bangus, said to be the world’s tastiest.
The festival offers various competitions like the Photo Contest on April 14 and photographs taken during the festival period will be judged on May 4; the Bikini Open Pageant will be on April 23, 8 p.m. at the city plaza; the Pigar Pigar Festival on April 23-27 at 5 p.m. on Galvan Street; the Little Miss Dagupan 2013 Pageant Night on April 24, 8 p.m. at the city plaza; the Drum and Lyre Competition on April 26, 7 a.m. at the city plaza; the Dragon Boat competition on April 27-29 at the Pantal River; the Miss Gay na Dayat 2013 on May 1, 8 p.m. at the Tondaligan Beach, and the Kick-boxing tournament on May 3 at the Robinson’s Place, the CIO report said.
Showcasing the bounty, beauty and culture of the city are the Dagupan’s Best Trade Fair on April 22 to May 1 in front of the city plaza; the TESDA Day that will offer free haircut and massage services on April 23-24 at the Senior Citizen’s Park; the Takbo para sa Sinucalan on April 27 at the De Venecia Expressway; the Joseph the Dreamer stage play on April 27- 28 at the Astrodome; and the Grand Fireworks Display to open the festivities on April 22 at the city plaza and another on April 30 at the downtown area.
Three television networks will also have their own night with the ABS-CBN Kapamilya Karavan sa Dagupan on April 20 ; the TV5 Serye Karavan sa Dagupan and the GO5! Live Show on April 22 at the city plaza and; the Kapuso Barangayan on April 30 at Barangay Pantal.
Other events include the Globe Night on April 26 at the city plaza; the Smart Day on April 27 at the city plaza; the Bombo Radio Night on April 28, 7 p.m. at the city plaza; the SMB Battle of the Band on April 28 to May 1 at the Tondaligan Beach; and the LAUS Autogroup Car Show on May 1 to- 2 at Robinson’s Place.(MCA/VHS/PIA1-Pangasinan)#
