Tagudin gets 4 awards in good governance in Ilocos region

TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur, AprIL 8 (PIA) — This southernmost town of Ilocos Sur was given at least four awards for good governance from the Ilocos Region Development Council (RDC) last month.

Tagudin is considered as the “Gateway to Ilocandia” being the first town in Ilocos Sur leading to the province of La Union. It is also the “Pearl of the Great Amburayan River” as it sits next to the huge river which became prominent in the Ilocano epic, Biag ni Lam-ang.

The town was recognized as the Ilocos Region champion in best practices for local governance; first runner-up in the search for most outstanding Local Government Units–Coastal Resource Management (LGU-CRM) Implementer; best performing LGU based on Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS) and second runner-up in the search for cleanest, safest and greenest LGU.

Its entry to the search for best practices named, the Barangay Focal Persons Program: Responsive Assistance through Networked Governance for Transparency and Accountability for Yntegrative Services (BFPP:RANGTAY), got the recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The search for best practices for local governance recognizes the LGU’s exemplary performance in promoting excellence and innovation and effective project management.

On the other hand, the town’s second award in the most outstanding LGU category promotes peoples’ consciousness towards sustained management initiatives.

As runner up in the best performing LGU search, the town had shown exemplary performance in the promotion of efficient, effective and transparent local governance practices in the Ilocos Region.

And as a runner-up in the cleanest, safest, and greenest LGU category, the town had shown significant performance in the protection, management and promotion of clean, healthy and safe environment.

The local government turned over the champion’s trophy in Barangay Dardarat on April 1 as a gesture of gratitude for the residents’ support to its programs. The trophy will then be passed on to 43 other barangays where it will also remain for a week. (MCA/MNOA/tagudin.gov.ph/PIA1Ilocos Sur)
