SAN FERNANDO CITY, April 8 (PIA) — Security is in place for the joint observance of the Philippine Veterans’ Week and Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9, the La Union Provincial Police said.
Senior Supt. Ramon L. Rafael, La Union police provincial director, said members of the Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) personnel are ready for deployment for the twin events.
The CDM is a special unit under the Provincial Public Safety Company who were trained on civil threats and disturbances.
This year’s theme for the Veterans’ Week: “Ang Beterano: Sigla at Inspirasyon ng Kabataan Tungo sa Tuwid na Daan,” aims to honor the heroism of Filipino and American troops during World War II.
Rafael said the police are ready to ensure that residents can freely and securely participate in various activities lined up for the events.
The events will kick off with a wreath-laying at the tomb of the unknown soldiers in Monumento followed by a short program initiated by the Provincial Government of La Union, in coordination with the City Government of San Fernando, the La Union Police Provincial Office, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines La Union and San Fernando City chapter.
