Bird flu preparedness set for project implementers in the Ilocos Region

DAGUPAN CITY, April 3 (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Ilocos Region will conduct a three-day technical update on avian influenza preparedness for project implementers in the region on April 3 to 5 at the Dagupan Garden and Village Hotel in this city.

Valentino Perdido, DA’s OIC-regional executive director, said that the event intends to establish and strengthen the core capabilities of project implementers to pre-empt and control the occurrence of influenza pandemic.

“This will enhance the project implementers’ capacity to respond rapidly and effectively in case of bird flu incursion in the country,” said Perdido.

The Philippines is one of the avian influenza-free countries but is at high risk with continuing outbreaks of the disease in neighboring countries.

The technical update on avian influenza preparedness is part of the national government’s effort to maintain the bird flu-free status of the country. (JCR/AMM-PIA1 Pangasinan)
