Bike for peace calls candidates for peaceful polls

Bacnotan, La Union Apr 1 (PIA) –- The La Union police have asked candidates to focus on their work platforms and refrain from
engaging in personal tirades during the campaign period as they held the 2nd bike for peace here.

Sr. Supt. Reynaldo Biay, Regional Special Operations Task Group-La Union (RSOTG-LU) said that other election irregularities ranging from vote buying, election frauds and the use of threats should be avoided.

“Everybody plays an important role to this noble purpose,” Biay said.

Trigidia Colisao, Department of the Interior and Local Government provincial director, emphasized the importance of preserving peace in the coming election.

She encouraged the public and candidates to observe peace, which stands for Participation of all sectors of the society; Encourage all candidates to abide with the peace covenant and with the rules of election such as common poster area, gun ban, checkpoint; Advocacy for a clean and safe election from COMELEC; Create awareness among the electorate that their votes are important; and Ensure accurate, safe, credible, and clean elections.

At least 250 bikers and 600 community members joined the event such as the PNP, DILG, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, the La Union Cycling Club, academe, Holcim Philippines, non-government organizations, national government agencies, media and the religious sector.
