LAOAG CITY, Mar 2 (PIA) — Not only tourism but also investment is the target market of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte on their “Paoay Kumakaway (Paoay waving)” tourism pitch this year.
Ilocos Norte has tied-up with the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) management to use some of the province’s most visited and anticipated tourist destination as a feature in their stored-value cards.
The provincial government will promote Ilocos Norte as an in investment opportunity and not just a tourism destination.
“Most of the tourist coming in the province are eager to see our beautiful tourist spots, without thinking of the possibility of spending money for investment here, so, the provincial government this time initiated an extra ordinary marketing,” Clentroy Guzman of the Provincial Communications and Media Office said.
The MRT cards will showcase Ilocos Norte’s finest destinations and prime products like Dragon fruit, Kapurpurawan in Burgos, Paoay dunes, Paoay Church, and the windmills.
“For the initial release, we will come-up with five designs, and will run for one to two years in the MRT,” Guzman said.
The MRT management has produced an initial 100,000 cards and ready to be released this summer 2013.
According to Jun Arvin Gudoy, head of the Provincial Communications and Media Office, since it is free, it will also help local traders to advertise their products.
”The partnership of MRT management and Ilocos Norte has also become a venue for advertising of local government units that have no budget for promos,” he said.
Ilocos Norte is expecting not just an increase of tourists in the province this year but also more investors that will boost the province’s economy.
