La Union police seize arms cache

CARLATAN, San Fernando City, La Union Feb 26 (PIA) – The police provincial office has confiscated assorted guns and ammunitions in Balaoan town in line with its campaign against loose firearms.

Police Supt. Marlon D. Paiste, chief of the La Union police community relations and public relations office, said the firearms were seized by virtue of separate search warrants that Executive Judge Marino Dela Cruz, of Branch 22 of the National Capital Judicial Region, issued.

Paiste said that the search warrants were issued separately against Daniel Viloria in Barangay Sablut and against Rogelio Concepcion in Barangay Nagsabaran Norte both in Balaoan town.

Seized were one Taurus 9mm with ammunition; one Akkar 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition; several .45 .cal pistols and ammunitions; one .22 .cal revolver with ammunitions; an empty shell for cal 5.56; and an empty shell for gauge 12 shotgun.

The search warrants were in line with the provisions RA 8294 or the law on illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The seized items are now in the custody of the La Union criminal Investigation and Detection Group for documentation and proper disposition, Paiste said.

Sr. Supt. Reynaldo Biay, task group commander, said the police will continue to impose search and seizure operations to achieve the objectives of the law on gun ban.

The operations were jointly implemented by the Regional Special Operations Task Group, the CIDG, the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Branch, the Regional Public Safety Battalion, La Union Provincial Public Safety Company, Regional Intelligence Division and the Balaoan Police Station.
