Ilocos Sur villages, school, civic groups now Hall of Famer for community dev’t

VIGAN CITY, Feb. 20 (PIA) — A public school, two villages and two civic groups made it to the Hall of Fame circle for sustaining their programs that led to the development of their communities under the Siglat awards.

Siglat, or Salisal Iladawannat Gaget ti Lumugar Agsaknap ti Timpuyog, values the achievements of barangays, groups, schools and individuals which brought community improvement and development.

The awards were incorporated in the Kannawidan festival, which the province marked earlier this month.

The five awardees, which include two civic groups and a school were also given the Hall of Fame recognition for sustaining their programs for three consecutive years.

The awardees include Barangay Pug-os of Cabugao town, which won five awards namely Best in Barangay Intensive Gardening, Barangay Herbary, Innovative Practice, Gender and Development Program Implementation and Most Child-Friendly Barangay. The village is under the leadership of Barangay Captain Arnold Yangat.

The other awardee was Barangay Calaoa-an of Candon City as the best performing barangay and outstanding Sangguniang barangay
Other awardees include the Balidbid Rural Improvement Club of Salcedo town as the best performing NGO; the Suysuyan Farmers Association of Lidlida town as the outstanding farmer’s group; and Pudoc Elementary School of San Vicente town as the best managed school in the barangay.
