SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 24 (PIA) — Bishop Rodolfo F. Beltran got a rousing welcome on January 18 as a large number of Catholic devotees assembled to witness his installation as the new head of the Diocese of San Fernando City at the St. William the Hermit Cathedral here.
Bishop Beltran was born on November 13, 1948 at Gattaran, Cagayan and was ordained as priest on March 25, 1976 in the same town.
On March 18, 2006, he became Vicar Apostolic of Bontoc-Lagawe and was ordained bishop on May 16, 2006 at the St. Peter’s Cathedral in Tuguegarao, Cagayan.
According to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, Beltran was officially installed Apostolic Vicar of Bontoc-Lagawe on May 29, 2006.
Bishop Beltran also served as Dean at the San Jacinto Minor Seminary in Tuguegarao and Dean of Studies and Rector at the San Pablo Regional College Seminary in Baguio City.
Pope Benedict XVI has chosen Bishop Beltran to head the Diocese of San Fernando City after the death of the La Union Bishop Artemio Rillera on November 2011.
The 63-year old bishop’s appointment was made public in the Vatican on October 30, 2012.
