SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 23 (PIA) — A total of 136 trafficked persons in the Ilocos Region were assisted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-I (DSWD-I) last year.
DSWD-I Information Officer Iryn D. Cubangbang said the victims were assessed for possible package of services like skills training, economic assistance for livelihood, and legal support through the Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons.
“With the inclusion of economic assistance to them, new opportunities lie ahead for the beneficiaries as their cases are on-going,” said Cubangbang.
Cubangbang also assured that DSWD-I will give appropriate assistance toward full recovery and reintegration of victims in their respective communities.
Meanwhile, DSWD-I and local government unit social workers here enhanced their technical expertise in giving psychological interventions, and social and economic reintegration services to victims-survivors of human trafficking through series of trainings and consultation dialogues.
