Binmaley town to stage 3rd Sigay Festival

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Jan 17 (PIA) — Binmaley town is set to delight the sights of locals and visitors and let them savor the flavor of varied seafood selections this fishing community has to offer with its staging of the third Sigay Festival slated January 18 to February 3.

The term “sigay” is a Pangasinan word which means “to harvest from the sea.” Sigay Festival is then Binmaley’s way of celebrating the town’s rich aquaculture industry which serves as the main source of living for residents here.

This year, an array of activities was lined-up to promote the town in the tourism map of the Philippines as the Fishbowl of Pangasinan and as the undisputed Seafood Capital of Northern Luzon.

The festivity will kick off with the launching of the Trade Fair near the town hall at 9 a.m. on January 18. On the same day, the Food Strip located close to the Children’s Park will be opened in the afternoon.

It will be followed by a two-day medical and surgical mission on January 23 to 24 at the Binmaley Infirmary. The nine-day novena in honor of the Our Lady of Purification, the town’s patroness, will also start at 4 p.m. on the 23rd.

Then, the “Kambogan ed Kapokokan” (fish catching in the pond) will happen on the morning of the 25th in a fishpond at the back of Bangsal Seafood and Lechon Restaurant in Barangay Nansangaan.

On the 26th, an evening of praise and thanksgiving will be held at the Binmaley plaza in the “Gabi ng Papuri at Pasasalamat.”

Subsequently, 16 lovely ladies from various barangays here will take the center stage as the much anticipated face-off of beauty, wit, and talent happens on the evening of the 27th in the Miss Binmaley beauty pageant at the town plaza.

Exquisitely prepared seafood cuisines will be enjoyed on the morning of the 28th during the Seafood Cook Fest while the night is set for the senior citizens and veterans.

A Fluvial Parade will be conducted in the morning of the 29th and will be capped by the Educators, Employees, Non-Governmental Organizations and Business Sectors Night as the evening affair. Following it is the Barangay Night on the 30th.

On the 31st, devotees of the Our Lady of Purification will gather for a religious procession in the afternoon while the Sangguniang Kabataan Night follows in the evening.

The commemorative program for the 423rd founding anniversary of Binmaley and the Drum and Lyre Exhibition are scheduled on February 1 with the coronation of this year’s Miss Binmaley and the eve for “balikbayans” as the night’s finale.

February 2 will be highlighted by a thanksgiving mass at the Our Lady of the Purification Church at 8 a.m. A civic parade and street dancing contest is scheduled to happen in the afternoon.

The last day, February 3, is intended for the people of Binmaley. Alongside the People’s Night is the staging of a singing competition dubbed “Kantahan ng Bayan.” Expected guests for this evening are the rock band “Alamid,” artist Heart Evangelista and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
