Local disaster council to recognize partners in disaster operation

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 15 (PIA) — Aiming to give tribute to the heroic display of valor and selfless commitment of partners in disaster operations to public service and saving lives, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 1 (RDRRMC-1) will be recognizing individuals, groups and agencies by the third week of January, this year.

“The council will conduct the ‘Banuar iti Amianan’ Awards to show gratitude and inspire others to emulate these selfless and heroic acts,” Director Melchito Castro of the Office of the Civil Defense and Chairman of the RDRRMC1 said.

According to Christian Tabisaura, operation officer of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), the award is non-competitive in nature since the RDRRMC1 has requested nominations from various regional line agencies and local government units who have manifested exemplary acts, be it big or a small contribution in disaster operations conducted in year 2012.

The region has experienced various calamities/disasters that brought havoc to lives, properties, infrastructure, and livelihood. Everyone shared their part in helping out, giving everyone’s best in saving lives amidst the risks during the disaster operation.

A brief description/caption on the specific contribution of the nominees in disaster operations is required.

The award categories are individual, groups, agencies, special awards (if a nominating agency opts to make a donation to support their respective nominee/s for a specific award) and media.

Deadline of submission of nominees will be on January 15. (JCR/EMR-PIA 1, La Union/ with reports from OCD)
