DAGUPAN CITY, Jan. (PIA) — The city government here received the Pinnacle of Excellence Award given by the Department of Health for its Tuberculosis Control Program in a ceremony held in La Union province.
Dr. Aurora Cuison, head of the Directly Observed Treatment System (DOTS) of the City health Office said the city earned the honor for its TB control efforts which steadily improved from a 78 percent cure rate to 92 percent among patients served from 2000-2012.
Almost 2,000 TB-diagnosed patients have already been given a clean bill of health based on DOTS Clinic accomplishment report, said Cuison.
Apart from the hall of fame award for the city, five employees manning the DOTS facility also received awards. They are Jose Patawaran, Ruby Damacio and Violeta Serrano (medical technologists); Jennelyn Barrozo (microsocopist) and Cuison (medical coordinator).
City Mayor Benjamin Lim was elated upon knowing that the city’s tuberculosis program attained the highest honor from the national health agency.
This is still a part of the government’s continuing effort to provide quality health care to Filipinos as embodied in the Philippine Development Plan. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan with reports from CIO)
