BURGOS, Ilocos Norte, Jan. 8 (PIA) — “There is no greater measure to Ilocano hospitality than to be polite” Milagros Gonzales of the Department of Tourism in Ilocos Norte said in a recent seminar on interacting with the tourists in Burgos town here.
Around 75 tricycle drivers and horse riders attended the seminar and took a workshop administered by the Asian Institute from Manila.
Gonzales said, drivers and riders are taught to refine their manners towards visitors in the province as the peak season for tourist arrivals has started.
“They (tricycle drivers and horse riders) are our front liners to tourists, so we have to teach them with good morals to establish good impressions to further market our tourist spots”, she said.
Peak season in the province began at the end of October where tourists started to flock in the province witnessing the province’s ‘fiesta’ celebration of the feast of the dead and will continue until April for the Semana Santa or Holy Week.
“There is no way that they (tricycle drivers and horse riders) were not able to learn from here because we already used our mother tongue, the Ilocano, to educate/ lecture them” Gonzales said.
She also reiterates that being polite is very essential to win the trust and confidence of the tourists.
DOT-Ilocos Norte is focusing on tourism development areas such as towns of Pagudpud, Paoay, and also Sarrat to boost the tourism industry in the province.
Simple tour guiding training to boatmen and tricycle drivers were also carried out in another seminar by DOT in Pagudpud, the province’s most visited area for its resorts and beaches. (ANL/CDG-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
