SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Jan 7 (PIA) — A mild earthquake rocked the province of Ilocos Sur early Friday morning but was too weak to cause damage to property, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Local Phivolcs Researcher Porferio De Peralta said the quake had a 2.8 magnitude in the Richter scale and occurred at 5 a.m. last Friday. Its epicenter was located at 61 kilometers southwest of San Esteban, Ilocos Sur with a depth of 18 kilometers.
He said the tremor was tectonic in origin and was due to the sudden movement of the local fault line. No aftershock is expected. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
