Vigan City uphold rights of its senior citizens

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur, Oct 19 (PIA) — The rights of the elderly residents are always upheld by the city government, according to City Social Welfare and Development Officer Celerina Agcamaran. The city hall even has an elevator for the elderly; and throughout the year, there are activities dedicated just for them.

In October each year, the city elderly are showered with various benefits that answer their basic needs as the Elderly Filipino Week is held on October 1-7.

This year, the elderly were given medical and dental services, laboratory and diagnostic tests, given eye care lecture, and reading glasses. The indigent and sickly elderly were visited and gifted with bags of grocery items. They also gathered for a Bible fellowship, and socialized with their fellows from the 39 barangays of the city.

Vigan Federated Senior Citizens President Maria Sumabat said the city government under Mayor Eva Marie S Medina has been sponsoring during the Holy Week activities such as Visita Iglesia in 14 churches in the province, Holy Week retreat with Abbot Rabang in Barangay Alangan in Santo Domingo, and the last tour this year to Ina Poon Bato (Shrine of Mother Mary) in Zambales.
