SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Sept 21 (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways Region 1 (DPWH-1) is almost finished in repairing national roads and bridges in La Union, DPWH-1 Public Relations Officer Esperanza Tinaza said.
Because of previous typhoons “Dindo,” “Gener,” “Helen,” and monsoon rains, national roads and some bridges have been damaged, which cause long traffic, delay of travel, and inconvenience to the public.
To address the problem, DPWH-1 Regional Director Veniedo O. Reyes immediately instructed all district engineers in the region to expedite potholes patching, cracks and joints sealing, and clearing activities of all national roads and bridges.
He also instructed to install warning and informative signs to ensure the safety of travelers.
“Lagi din nakabantay at nakahanda ang mga maintenance point persons and roadside workers para tumulong sa mga daan na nasira (Maintenance point persons and roadside workers should watch and be alert always in the repair of the damaged roads),” he added.
Officer in-charge Chief Maintenance Isabello Lopez, Jr. said 98 percent of the Manila-North Road (MNR) in the first district of La Union has been completed and is now passable to all types of vehicles.
Lopez said some of the roads are not yet finish due to rains.
Clearing of drainage facilities are on going along MNR barangay Dili in Bauang town.
Also, program of works and construction plans for the rehabilitation and construction of drainage system are being prepared, Tinaza said. (ANL/MBR-PIA 1 La Union with reports from DPWH-1/Esperanza Tinaza)
