SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Sept 13 (PIA) -– The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Region 1 conducted a two-day orientation seminar on Skills Registry System (SRS) to facilitate manpower search by employers and jobseekers through the maintenance of a “live” data bank of skills at the phil-job.net.
SRS is a facility that will list down available workers with their corresponding skills and establishments/employers in need of workers in every province, city, town, and barangay in the regions.
It will be connected to the PhilJobnet, the government’s online job portal which is accessible to the public, particularly to jobseekers, recruitment agencies, and local and foreign employers.
Arly S. Valdez, labor communication officer Arly S. Valdez, said officials of all the 33 barangays of Rosario town, this province, attended the said orientation.
The participants were taught how to establish and maintain a listing of existing and future establishments in their barangays so that information on job openings will be made available to job seekers, Valdez added.
Resource persons during the orientation were Fiorello Surell, head of the DOLE-La Union Field Office; Bernadette May Mamitag, senior labor and employment officer; and Jomer Sicat.
On the other hand, Provincial Employment Service Office and the Office of the Barangay Affairs provided administrative and technical support to ensure the success of the event.
Mayor Bellarmin Flores III said that the project was funded by the local government unit of Rosario.
Memorandum of agreement was signed between the DOLE Regional Director Grace Usrua and the Mayor of Rosario for the full implementation of the SRS.
The skills registration was introduced to the local government of the City of San Fernando, the town of Sudipen and the town of Bauang and Agoo.
The implementation of the SRS is now on its 3rd wave, where 13 municipalities are targeted including Rosario.
The first wave areas are City of San Fernando, La Union and Rosales, Pangasinan; while the cities of San Carlos and Alaminos in Pangasinan and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur including the towns of Sison and Sta. Barbara in Pangasinan and Sudipen in La Union were covered during the project’s 2nd wave of implementation. (ANL/EMR-PIA 1 La Union with reports from DOLE 1)
