LAOAG CITY, Sept 11 (PIA) — The local chief executive of San Nicolas town in Ilocos Norte led town officials and employees in declaring anew their commitment to public service in celebration of civil service month.
Mayor Alfredo Valdez Jr. made the re-affirmation of oath of office together with the 140 employees of the municipal government during a flag raising ceremony.
In his speech, Valdez, a Jose Rizal Memorial Awardee for government service, reminded everyone to continue serving the public with dedication, honesty, efficiency and humility without expecting anything in return.
He likewise challenged everyone to be part of the solution to problems of the local government and the country at large.
The event was one of the activities the local government unit is doing in celebration of the 112th year of the Philippine Civil Service.
The nationwide month-long celebration aims to promote, showcase and celebrate the heroism in public service and to highlight stories of triumph and sacrifice among the men and women in government.
This year’s theme is Kawani, Ikaw ang Isang Lingkod Bayani.
Earlier, in San Nicolas, a free medical and dental mission, and blood-letting program was conducted to benefit the public.
The local government also joined government agencies and LGUs in the Fun-Walk and Hataw Sayaw program by the Civil Service Commission in Laoag City.
Come September 14, municipal employees, together with officials and members of the Kapisanan ng Broadkasters ng Pilipinas-Ilocos Norte chapter, will plant trees at the Sanitary Landfill in Barangay 16 for environmental protection and rehabilitation.
The municipal government will also honor its outstanding and loyal employees in simple ceremonies at the Municipal Hall.
To cap this year’s celebration, on September 28, employees will be attending a disaster-preparedness training and seminar by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council, after which, they will have a fun-filled afternoon of camaraderie as one happy family. (ANL/CPC-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
