300 gov’t workers join CSC’s fun run

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Sept 11 (PIA) — Some 300 government workers participated in the Civil Service Comission’s (CSC-1) “Fun Run2012: Takbo ng Kawani Laban sa Yosi 2” on September 7 to advocate a smoke-free bureaucracy in the region.

The activity aimed to promote awareness among employees in the public service for the assurance of healthy and productive workforce pursuant to CSC Memorandum Circular No. 17 series of 2009, Engelbert Anthony D. Unite, CSC-1 regional director, said during the “Ammuentayo” radio program over DZNL Aksyon Radyo.

Winners in the 3k race for male category were Jeffrey C. Valdez from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), first place; Wilfredo D. Labsan of San Juan local government unit, second place; and Joseph P. Ulnes of BFP, third place.

For female category, Lani Peralta of Philippine National Police (PNP), first place; Josephine Dangli of BFP, second place and Jocelyn Villador of BFP, third place.

While for the male 5k category, Edric Salvacion was declared as champion. The second placer was Orano Torano and Lester Allan Nartatez, third placer; both from the PNP.

The Philippine Navy, on the other hand, garnered all three awards in the 5k for female category in the persons of Joy Domingo, Gladys Villanueva and Marites Macaraig.

A certificate of recognition was given to the PNP for having the most number of participants and a certificate of participation to each office who attended.

During the program, Unite said that this was a good indication of unity among employees in the government stressing that public servants in region one are really hardworking and participative as advocates of “100 Percent Smoke Free Policy.”

He also thanked everyone for marking the activity as a success in spite of the unstoppable ‘Hataw’ dance performed by the participants at San Juan town Civic Center after the fun run.

Other participating offices includes Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Commission on Human Rights, Department of Education, Commission on Population, National Food Authority, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Red Cross-La Union Chapter, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University and among others.

The activity is part of the commission’s observance to the 112th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service with the theme “Kawani, Ikaw ay Isang Lingkod Bayani.” (ANL/MHH-PIA1 La Union)
