SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Sept 4 (PIA) — Government workers and students in the province gathered Monday morning, September 3 for a ‘Fun Walk’ as kickoff activity to the 18th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) celebration this September.
With the theme “Sa Crime Prevention may Magagawa Ako,” NCPW aims to raise consciousness among people on crime prevention for a safe community.
The celebration also seeks to give importance to the involvement of local officials and leaders in ensuring its successful commemoration and implementation of crime prevention programs and activities.
Police Chief Supt. Franklin Jesus Bucayu, regional director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) said crime prevention is everybody’s business, during the program at San Fernando City hall ground after the fun walk.
He also reiterated their commitment in maintaining the peace and order while, region one particularly in La Union, continues to enjoy a generally progressive economic atmosphere.
“We are even to work more with the community and I therefore enjoin everyone to actively support and participate on this activity,” Bucayu said.
Acting City Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega, keynote speaker, stressed different approaches towards having good values and discipline being a role model in the society.
Meanwhile, Evangeline Almirante, officer-in-chief from the Office of the Assistant Regional Director- National Police Commission 1, led participants in the ‘Panata sa Pagbabago’ as part of the activity.
Blowing of whistles and releasing of balloons to mark the program as a success also took place on said day.
The activity was participated by the Department of Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, La Union Provincial Police Office, PRO1, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and La Union National High School, among others.
