Search, rescue operation on for missing fisherman from Ilocos

VIGAN CITY, August 7 (PIA) — Joint operatives from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Ilocos Sur’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) are presently conducting search and rescue operation for a fisherman, who went missing while fishing at the shorelines in Barangay Villamar, Caoayan town on Monday.

PDRRMC Action Officer Sigfred Duquing identified the missing fisherman as Gilbert Rabara, 36, a resident from Barangay Villamar, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.

Duquing said Rabara left his home on board motorized banca to fish at West Philippine Sea at 3:00 AM last Monday.

The fisherman was reportedly last seen fishing at a distance of 10 nautical miles from the coastal area of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, Duquing announced that the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 1 has provided P10,000 cash assistance to each of the families of the four victims of drowning incidents due to heavy rains brought out by Tropical Storm “Gener”.

The recipients of this cash assistance were the families of victims Venice Senopen of Baranagy San Ramon, Sigay, Ilocos Sur; Analiza Tinaza, 16, of Barangay Pado Chico, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur; Reynaldo Polca Y Frio, 29, of Barangay Camiztizoan, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur; and Anthony Capsuyen Y Bugtong from Barangay Dardarat, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

Duquing added that the members of the PDRRMC are on–heightened alert due to the continuous heavy rains in the province due to the Southwest monsoon enhanced by TS Gener. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
