SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Aug 4 (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in partnership with the Research, Education and Institutional Development (REID) Foundation and the local government units jointly identified, evaluated, prioritized, and implemented the tourism infrastructure in priority tourism destination areas in the region in support of the goals and targets of National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) and the Philippine Development Plan (PDP).
The program aims to create travel movement to boost the tourism industry in the identified areas in the region; create job opportunities and employment; generate income for the people; and the road project will stimulate economic update.
“Tourism industry has strong potentials to generate employment and income and alleviate poverty situation in the region, while transport infrastructure also plays a vital role in tourism development to generate visitors to tourism destinations,” DOT Regional Director Martin S. Valera said.
The five identified areas in the region to be implemented are the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation Road in Burgos town and the Macini-Daduang-Saud Road in Pagudpud town, both in Ilocos Norte; Bantay-San Ildefonso Section (Manila widening road) in Ilocos Sur; and the Bangrin Mangrove Access Road in Bani and the Napudot Road in Balungao town, both in Pangasinan.
