DAGUPAN CITY, July 30 (PIA) — The Nutrition Month celebration in this city was highlighted by a cooking contest using vegetable recipes dubbed as “Oh My Gulay!” recently.
Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from the 31 barangays of the city were divided into 10 groups to showcase their skills in cooking nutritious food held at the Senior Citizens Gym in Barangay Poblacion Oeste Friday.
City Nutrition officer Leah Aquino said the competitors were judged on the originality of their recipe, which is, low in cost and nutritious.
Winners received cash prizes and gift packs from the Rotary Club of Dagupan.
Other activities conducted by the city for the month-long nutrition celebration include a thanksgiving mass; micronutrient supplementation of vitamin A, iron, salt testing for iodine in markets and households; deworming of 12-71 months old; home gardening; nutrition education classes: lecture on the importance of vegetables; physical fitness and planting of malunggay cuttings; and nut jingles.
In schools, nutrition month was celebrated with essay writing and poster making contests, distribution of seeds, and seedlings and food processing.
