SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, July 28 (PIA) – Dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) may still apply for scholarship for school year 2012 with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office-1 (OWWA RWO1) until August 31.
OWWA’s Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) school is one way of promoting and providing welfare services of OFW clients and their families, said Rhoda R. Lee, OWWA-1 officer-in-charge.
The scholarship is open to all dependents of OFWs with active OWWA membership who wants to take four- to five-year baccalaureate course in any Commission of Higher Education (CHED)-accredited institutions in the country, Lee said.
The applicants should be incoming freshmen college, currently enrolled as fourth year high school or high school graduate who never took any technical-vocational or college units.
A financial assistance of P60,000 per year will be given to the scholar as long as he or she complies with the scholarship agreement. The scholarship will continue until completion of the course regardless of the status of OFW membership.
Married or unmarried OFWs’ children and/or siblings who are not more than 21 years old, single, high school graduate or about to graduate in high school and an incoming college freshman for school year 2013-2014 can still submit their application said OWWA-RWO1 Labor Communications Officer Amapola Z. Villar.
Villar said that an applicant should pass the qualifying exam to be administered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and has to make it to the top 100 qualifiers nationwide.
Interested applicants are required to submit the accomplished application forms downloadable at owwa.gov.ph, certificate of good moral character, certification from principal and statement of applicant which is attached in the application form, two 1 x 1 photos, proof of relationship to the OFW like birth certificate authenticated by National Statistics Office (NSO) or local civil registrar, latest OWWA membership payment receipt of the OFW, form 137 or the certified true copy of grades, and an official transcript of records for graduate students.
