Senator encourages high school students to support K+12

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, July 4, (PIA) — A senator yesterday urged students of the La Union National High School (LUNHS) to support the K+12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd), during his visit with the Rotary Club International.

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who is also a member of the Rotary Club, said the program will make students competitive and skilled in the future.

He encouraged them to prioritize their education so they can avail themselves of the senator’s scholarship program when they enter college.

Pimentel also explained to them that to effectively and efficiently implement the K to 12 program, there is a need for more facilities for the students to use such as libraries and laboratories.

The Rotary Club provided more than 500 chairs to LUNHS, the largest secondary school in La Union with a population of about 5,000.

Meanwhile, DepEd Region 1 director Teresita Velasco thanked the Rotary Club members including Pimentel and La Union First District Congressman Victor F. Ortega for visiting the LUNHS, where they had an opportunity to voice out their concerns and issues such as the shortage of buildings and classrooms.

After said event, the senator joined in the oath-taking ceremony of the elected officials of the Rotary Club International at Oasis Country Resort here. (ANL/MHH-PIA1, La Union)
