CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, San Fernando City, La Union June 21 (PIA) — The disaster preparedness plan of Region 1 police are now in place, according to Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) Officer-in-Charge Regional Information Officer Police Superintendent Jovencio S. Badua Jr.
Badua said that the plan aims to lessen the effect of disasters in the region, particularly in disaster-prone areas. This would help decrease, if not to attain zero casualties thru police-community partnerships.
The disaster risk reduction and management plan involves all Philippine National Police (PNP) units. They shall coordinate with the agencies in the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, chaired by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD). Other agencies involved are local government units, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Navy.
The plan has a three-pronged disaster preparedness and response operation, namely pre-disaster stage (pro-active assessment stage); disaster response stage (disaster incident management); and post-disaster stage (support to recovery and rehabilitation efforts).
Badua said that the PNP, which is one of the vital role players in disaster risk reduction management in the region, provinces, municipal, or city and down to the barangay levels, are immediately activated once the region is under a storm signal and is placed on full alert status.
The PNP’s Disaster Incident Management Task Groups will implemented the plan 24 hours prior a typhoon’s expected landfall.
Likewise, PRO1 will conduct timely and rapid disaster response, such as search and rescue operation, evacuation and relief operation, emergency medical services, and security and traffic management operation in disaster/calamity areas, in support and coordination with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC).
