DAGUPAN CITY, June 20 (PIA) — The city government of Dagupan has launched anew a leadership program dubbed “Manlingkor ya Kalangweran (Youth who will Serve)” as part of the 65th Dagupan Day celebration.
Around 88 third year high school students from private and public schools here are participants of this activity.
The program started with a three-day training held at the Department of Education’s Division Office this city from June 14 to 16. This is to prepare the students in their task as public servants for a week.
City Mayor Benjamin Lim explained that third year students were chosen to participate instead of fourth year students since they are going to spend another school year in high school, and they can still impart to fellow students what they will learn from this event.
“We chose the juniors because we would like them to go through that experience, make mistakes, learn and share their mistakes and how they have corrected it with the juniors later on,” Lim said during the training period.
Lim advised the participants to have self-confidence and to study hard so that they can have a bright future. He further encouraged them to become active contributors in solving problems in the community.
These youth leaders took their oaths this morning at the city plaza during the flag raising ceremony, like newly appointed government officials. Among the positions that they will hold are mayor, vice mayor, councilors, department heads, and barangay officials. They will hold these positions from June 19 to June 22. (ANL/AMM/PIA 1-Pangasinan)
