llocano Rizalistas will converge on Rizal Day in Vigan

VIGAN CITY, June 18 — Some 1,000 Knights of Rizal (KOR), including Kababaihang Rizalista at Kabataang Rizalista, and government officials and employees will converge in front of the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal to commemorate the 151th birth anniversary of the national hero on June 19 in the Heritage City.

Board member Jeremias “Jerry “ Singson, Supreme Chancellor of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, said that members of this patriotic organization from Vigan City, Bantay, Sta. Catalina, San Vicente, Caoayan, Sinait, Sta. Cruz, Candon City and Camp Elpidio Qurino Chapters will lead in depicting the life and martyrdom of Rizal during the annual celebration.

Highlighting the affair includes the re-enactment of the Martyrdom of Rizal in Bagumbayan by selected students of the University of Northern Philippines, aside from the renditions of patriotic songs and dances from the Choral Groups of St. Paul College and Divine Word College of Vigan and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur.

Department heads and their employees, teachers and students followed by the KOR members will execute the flower offering ritual at the foot of Rizal’s monument in this city.

Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, national chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, was invited as the guest of honor and speaker while Congressman Ryan Singson and Vigan Mayor Eva Medina will deliver their inspirational messages.

The Sangguniang Panglungsod member also stressed that the KOR, with chapters all over the world, will be organized in all the 34 towns of Ilocos Sur. If possible all barangays in this First Class Province will have Rizalistas in order to promote the ideals, teachings and chivalry of Rizal, he said. (ANL/BPP-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
