DAGUPAN CITY, June 19 (PIA) — Several activities were held in this city last week to improve disaster management capabilities.
On Friday, Mayor Benjamin S. Lim led the ceremonial posting of evacuation maps at the Dagupan City National High School and then at the West Central Elementary School, where a concurrent earthquake drill was being conducted.
Indicated in the evacuation plans are escape routes that should be used during earthquake or other disasters.
Information Officer Ana Louise Velasco said the city would distribute a total of 1,445 evacuation plans to all the public elementary and high schools in the city.
The campaign, she added, will be expanded to include the private schools.
Lim said that the activities, including the rescue training held in this city this week, constitute the first phase of the city’s disaster management plan.
Further plans for disaster management would include more drills and training, procurement of equipment, identification of vulnerable communities, and identification and development of evacuation areas, he further said.
Lim added that the activities are intended to avoid casualties among people, considering that the city lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions frequently occur. (ANL/ARRF/JCR/PIA 1-Pangasinan)
