R1AA winners get cash incentives

LAOAG CITY, June 6 (PIA) — A total of P1,287,000 cash incentives were distributed among the winners, their coaches and trainers in the recently concluded Region 1 Athletic Association at Lingayen, Pangasinan.

The cash incentives were given by the local government of Ilocos Norte, as one of their support system for the involvement of the youth in sports and acknowledging their efforts in winning the game.

The distribution took place at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena in Laoag City last May 30, 2012.

The beneficiaries include the 221 gold medalists, 184 silver medalists, 138 bronze medalists, 146 runners-up and their respective coaches and trainers.

Each of the gold medalists, received P3,000, P2,000 for every silver medalists, P1,000 for bronze medalists and P500 for those who garnered runners-up in the said sports event.

Sharmaine Joy Pascual, who received the highest incentive totaling to P15, 000 for her collective achievements for gold, silver and bronze medals, during an interview with the local government said that the amount is a big help for her and her family to finance her studies.

The R1AA formerly known as Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) is an annual sports activity of the Department of Education (DepEd) joining 14 schools division from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan.

This year, Ilocos Norte dominated the said event garnering a total points of 617.17, among its competing provinces who garnered as follows: First Placer- Pangasinan II (522.25 points), Second Placer- Pangasinan I (387.75 points), Third Placer- La Union (255 points), and Fourth Palcer- San Fernando City (163.67 points).

The winners also represented Region 1 in the Palarong Pambansa 2012, conducted last May 6 to 12 in Pangasinan. (ANL/CJD-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
