Search for Outstanding Volunteers 2012 on

SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION, June 5 (PIA) — The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA 1), in coordination with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), is now accepting nominees for the Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) 2012.

The SOV aims to highlight and recognize the exemplary performance and dedication to service of Filipino volunteers in building strong communities across the country through volunteerism.

Conducted annually, the search is open to all individual Filipino citizens and organizations who are currently extending volunteer assistance in the country. Nominees will vie for the CY 2012 National Outstanding Volunteer Award (NOVA) or the Volunteer Lifetime Award (VLA).

Under the NOVA, there are two categories: individual and organization.

For the individual category, individual refers to a person who engages in activities undertaken not primarily for financial gain and that involves spending time on his/her own free will and doing activities that aim to benefit the community, the environment, or individuals outside one’s immediate family. It is further classified into youth and adult.

Qualifications for this category are as follows: must be 15 to 30 years old for youth category and at least 31 years for adult category at the time of submission of nomination; providing volunteer assistance consistently for at least three years for youth category and at least five years for adult category to social-economic, civic, and humanitarian programs or projects in institutions or communities; and a member of a volunteer organization or institution that is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), or registered by the PNVSCA or duly recognized by an accrediting government institution, or recognized as a volunteer by communities, groups, or institutions that he/she serves.

For the organization category, organizations are classified into non-profit and corporate. For purposes of the search, non-profit refers to any non-stock, non-governmental organization including schools and academic institutions and not affiliated with any company/corporation and that engages the services of volunteers in social-economic and cultural development, humanitarian, civic activities, advocacy, capability building, and networking for volunteerism or is created specifically to recruit, train, and deploy volunteers for such purpose. Corporate meanwhile refers to companies that engage employee volunteering as an approach to achieve corporate social responsibility or to corporate-supported or affiliated foundations that engage volunteers to implement volunteer programs.

Qualifications for this category are: providing volunteer assistance consistently for at least five years for non-profit and at least three years for corporate, and formally organized with SEC registration and/or duly registered by the PNVSCA or granted accreditation by government or non-government organizations duly recognized by the government or informally established but recognized as a volunteer organization by the communities, groups, or institutions it serves.
