DAGUPAN CITY, June 2 (PIA) — The city police will assist schools during the opening of classes on June 4.
Community Relations Officer Rodrigo Vinluan said the Dagupan City Police Station will disperse several officers near schools and universities in the city to protect students against crimes.
Vinluan, who said that the dispersal is part of their Oplan Balik Eskwela, identified Perez Boulevard, Arellano St., and Tapuac as among the areas that need watching.
In barangay Tapuac, considered a university belt because of the presence of at least eight schools, a new police community precinct was inaugurated on May 18 for the purpose.
Around four to five officers will man the precinct, he said during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency office on Thursday.
Crimes including rape, hold-up, drug trafficking, extortion and gang wars were known to happen in the area.
Crimes happen due to the lack of police visibility, he said, noting that before the precinct was constructed, the nearest one was in barangay Lucao, which was about a kilometer away.
The mobile unit in the Lucao precinct will assist in the operation of the new precinct.
Police visibility will serve as an effective deterrence against crime, he said.
The police have assessed that city peace and order situation in the city is generally peaceful, however. (JCR/ARRF-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
