SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, May 27 (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 1, in collaboration with the City Health Office – Social Hygiene Clinic of San Fernando City, recently joined the whole world’s campaign on HIV (human immune virus) awareness to make issues visible, change public attitudes, and get publicity and to reach thousands of people.
During the campaign, flyers which include basic information on HIV and AIDS – the modes of transmission, myths about HIV and preventive measures- were distributed and spearheaded by the Men Oppose to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) group.
According to the event organizer and advocate Melecio Ubilas and Information Officer Iryn de los Reyes of the DSWD, the convergence efforts in said event aimed to correct some information about HIV and AIDS.
A candle lighting was also held in front of the DSWD office to highlight the event. The candlelight memorial was to honor, support, and advocate those who have been affected by the global HIV epidemic. (JCR/EMR-PIA 1 La Union with report from DSWD FO1)
