LAOAG CITY, May 18 — Some 80 undergraduates and unemployed professionals were hired under the Government Internship Program (GIP) in Laoag City in Ilocos Norte.
The GIP is a national program of the Aquino administration, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, to strengthen the youth by empowering them on their skills and potentials through their participation in the core programs of the DSWD.
City Social Welfare Officer Perlita Cabello said the hired government interns, aged 18 to 30, will perform various tasks like conducting researches in such core programs as Supplemental Feeding, Social Pension, Parenting, among others.
Cabello also said the GIP provides opportunities for the young people to earn and augment the family income.
“This is a chance for them not just to earn but also to gain experience which they can use for future employment,” Cabello said.
The interns will each receive P246 stipend daily and will work for 52 days. They came from the city’s 80 barangays. (ANL/CPC-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
