SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, May 16 (PIA) — A mild tectonic earthquake with 3.0 magnitude rocked some areas in Ilocos Sur early morning Monday but did not cause any damage to properties, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) based here.
Philvolcs said a 3.0 magnitude tremor occurred at 2:48 a.m. Monday with an epicenter located at 41 kilometers southwest of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur with a depth of 3 kilometers but no intensity recorded.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs also recorded two mild tremors hitting Nothern Luzon last Sunday. The first quake was 3.6 magnitude tremor occurred at 3:31 a.m with epicenter at 56 kilometers southeast of Santa Ana, Cagayan with a depth of 22 kilometers.
The second quake was 3.0 magnitude, which happened at 4:52 p.m. with epicenter traced at 14 kilometers northeast of Bangued, Abra with a depth of 27 kilometers.
Phivolcs said that the mild quakes were all tectonic in origin but no intensity recorded and no aftershock to be expected. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
