DAGUPAN CITY, May 16 (PIA) — The grand champion of the Gilon-Gilon street dancing competition during the recent Bangus Festval in this city has joined the Pattaradday Festival in Santiago City, Isabela held on May 5.
Contingents of barangay Lucao who bagged the first place in the Gilon Gilon fest for the fourth time, performed for the Isabelans together with dancers from Candaba, Pampanga and Iloilo, among others.
Despite the long, winding and tiresome trip up north of Luzon, not to mention the scorching heat of the sun and lack of sleep, the 130-strong street dancing champ displayed their dancing prowess amidst the cheers of an appreciative crowd.
“Marakep (Very good or Beautiful)!” said Santiago City mayor Amelita S. Navarro, who coincidentally hails from Lingayen, Pangasinan while the Bangus Capital contingent performed their winning dance number at the oval field of the host city.
Navarro, who was seated together with Philippine National Red Cross chairman Dick Gordon, actor Cesar Montano and other local officials at the venue, were all praises to the Bangus harvest presentation. The group was accompanied by their current village chief Liberato Solano and former Punong-Barangay Lino Fernandez.
According to Solano, the Lucao contingent was sent by Dagupan Mayor Benjamin S. Lim to be the city’s ambassadors of goodwill.
After Isabela, the group also performed during the opening program of the Palarong Pambansa held in Lingayen town on May 7 which was graced by President Benigno Aquino III. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan with reports from CIO)
