Palarong Pambansa 2012 holds finale; NCR is over-all champ

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, May 14 (PIA) –- After a week of arduous competition, the Palarong Pambansa 2012 wrapped up on Saturday afternoon at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) in this town.

Special awards were given out to: Region 4-B (MIMAROPA) was the most disciplined and the cleanest, greenest, eco-friendliest delegation; Region 4-A (CALABARZON) was the most organized delegation; and Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) was the biggest delegation for the closing ceremony.

Subsequently, Tandoc Elementary School and Tandoc National High School in San Carlos City were the cleanest, greenest, eco-friendliest schools. While best school host billeting areas were Estanza Elementary School and Estanza National High School in Lingayen town.

Victors in the elementary division were: National Capital Region (NCR), champion; Region 6 (Western Visayas), 1st runner-up; Region 4-A (CALABARZON), 2nd runner-up; Region 7 (Central Visayas), 3rd runner-up; Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), 4th runner-up; and Region 1 (Ilocos), 5th runner-up.

Secondary division winners were: National Capital Region (NCR), champion; Region 6 (Western Visayas), 1st runner-up; Region 4-A (CALABARZON), 2nd runner-up; Region 7 (Central Visayas), 3rd runner-up; Region 3 (Central Luzon), 4th runner-up; and Region 12 (Cotabato), 5th runner-up.

Marked as this year’s over-all title holders are National Capital Region (NCR), champion; Region 6 (Western Visayas), 1st runner-up; Region 4-A (CALABARZON), 2nd runner-up; Region 7 (Central Visayas), 3rd runner-up; Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), 4th runner-up; and Region 3 (Central Luzon), 5th runner-up.

During his message, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro lauded Region 1 (Ilocos), ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao) and Region 3 (Central Luzon) for their significant leap in standings. Previously at 12th place, Region 1 is now on 9th place; ARMM before at 17th place, currently at 15th place; and Region 3 from rank 8th to rank 6th.

Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. of the host province also rendered his send-off message after DepEd Sec. Luistro. Later, the flags of the Philippines, DepEd, Palarong Pambansa, Pangasinan and the banners of the 17 competing regions were lowered and the flame in the urn of peace and friendship was extinguished to indicate the end of the national contest.

Participants then lighted around 1000 colorful sky lanterns, signifying that the fire of the game is going back in their respective
regions. They also sang “Auld Lang Syne” reflecting camaraderie and companionship, values which are inculcated by the sports activity. (ANL/AMM-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
