PNP bats tagging of helmet, jacket of motorcycle riders

DAGUPAN CITY, May 13 (PIA) — The Pangasinan Police Office wants motorcycle riders to have the plate numbers of their units printed on the back of their helmets and jackets.

Pangasinan Police Community Relations Officer Benjamin Ocomen said such tagging would make the police easily identify the riders, especially those riding-in-tandems.

“I hope that there would be such an ordinance,” he said.

Majority of crimes, particularly homicide and robbery, recorded in the province in the past months were perpetrated by suspects riding-in-tandem, he said during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) office on Thursday.

Last month, Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. of the Sixth District of Pangasinan proposed an ordinance to regulate riding-in-tandem, to prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and to enforce the use of proper helmet.

Ocomen expressed hope that the tagging will be integrated into the ordinance. (JCR/ARRF-PIA1 Pangasinan)
