DAGUPAN CITY, May 13 (PIA) — For the fourth straight year, barangay Lucao in this city was declared champion of the Gilon-Gilon street dancing competition in the yearly Bangus Festival celebration.
Besting 30 other contingents, barangay Lucao mightily defended its crown as its participating-dancers show off their skill in the main streets of the city and at the city plaza where the main contest was held.
As the queen of Gilon-Gilon, Lucao won P100,000 and also vested two minor awards as the best in street-dancing and in costume with P25,000 for each award bringing their total earnings to P150,000 plus the right to represent Dagupan in the Pattaraday Festival in Santiago, Isabela.
They were also tapped to perform during the opening ceremonies of the Palarong Pambansa in Lingayen town on May 7 which was graced by President Benigno Aquino III.
The other top five winners were: Barangay Mangin, first runner-up with with P75,000 worth of prize; Barangay Pogo-Chico, second runner-up, who received P50,000; Barangay Bonuan Binloc, third runner-up; and Barangay Tebeng, fourth runner-up, who took home P25,000.
The competition’s board of judges was chaired by Cordillera Administrative Region – Chapter President Navalta-Corpuz of the Philippine Folk Dance Society, together with Panagbenga Street Parade 2012 consultant and Professor Maria Catbagan-Aplaten; Israel Mark “Noi” Gonzales, visual artist; Pangasinan State University ( Lingayen) coordinator for cultural and performing arts Director Romary Lincod; and Cultural Center of the Philippines duty supervisor Mark Jones Medina.
