Fluvial parade features clean river system in Pangasinan

BUGALLON, Pangasinan, May 9 (PIA) — A fluvial parade competition held on May 1 featured the clean river system in the province.

In “Banca Parada,” which is part of the Sea Festival celebration, a total of 160 colorful and creatively crafted boats traversed the Agno River along Pangapisan North in Lingayen town towards the foot of Bañaga Bridge in this town to showcase the provincial government’s environmental concern particularly on clearing the rivers.

The floats depict the theme, “Linis tan Dakep na Kailugan, Dayew na Pangasinan (Cleanliness and Beauty of the River, Glory of Pangasinan).” These floats were decorated using indigenous and biodegradable materials. Each boat passengers from the local government units (LGUs) wore outfits depicting their cities and municipalities while those from other agencies and institutions dressed in Hawaiian costumes.

In the category A contest (composed of different barangays), the town of Binmaley was the virtual grand slam winner after four of its barangays-Baybay lopez, champion; San isidro Sur, first runner-up; Dulag, second runner-up; and Naguilayan, third runner-up-grabbed all of the prizes.

In category B (national government agencies, local government agencies, business establishments and other institutions), Sual town emerged the champion; San Fabian, first runner-up; Anda, second runner-up; and Binmaley, third runner-up.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robrero led in the awarding of winners in the the Banca Parada.

The champions received P25,000 cash prize; first runners-up got P20,000; second runners-up won P15,000; and third runners-up were awarded with P10,000. Trophies were also given to victors for category A while P3, 500 and certificates were handed as consolation prizes. Non-winners for category B were given certificates.

The provincial government vowed to strengthen its support to all national government agencies, LGUs and local government officials in protecting the environment. It, as well, encouraged the citizens to join in this task to sustain a better future for Pangasinenses. (ANL/AMM-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
